"Linnaeus was here" in 1734

Walk in the footsteps of Linnaeus.

The Linné path winds its way up the slope of Salsfjället and continues into Norway. Follow the road Linné traveled on his way to Röros in 1734.

Linné and his company went all the way to Röros. Their journey is described in Linné's Dalaresa, and no one can describe the water in Grövelsjön as well as Carl von Linné - "All [the springs] brought a water the likes of which no one had ever tasted, both for its clarity and coldness and for its taste. The water tastes right, which tastes nothing.”

Start at Sjöstugan, take the suspension bridge over the river Grövlan and follow the trail towards Sylen/Svukuriset. The path is very easy to follow and after about 2 km you pass the reindeer fence and the national border between Sweden and Norway. Here you can go as far as you want, open and easy-going mountain terrain with nice valleys invites you to nice strolls.

Alternatively, continue up towards Salsfjället and on to Sylen, approx. 9 km. Here there is the option of taking M/S Sylöra back to Sjöstugan (pre-booking a place is required) or hiking back over the mountain. If you want a longer trip with an overnight stay, you can hike on to Hävlingen and the County Board's cottages there, about 11 km from Sylen. The possibility of staying overnight is also available in Sylen at Sylseth farm (pre-booking required).

Parking is available just before Sjöstugan if you come by car.
